Beliefs, Philosophy, and Core Values
The Christian world has many denominations with variations in interpretation of the scriptures, yet there are essential beliefs that all Christians across the ages should hold to be true.
The same is true of Montessori environments, especially as the science and education world increasingly adopt Montessori principles and practice. It is therefore necessary to articulate our position on core matters relating to both.
There is only one God, eternally self-existent in three persons—Father, Son and Holy Spirit
The Bible to be the inspired, infallible, authoritative, inerrant Word of God
In the deity of Jesus Christ, His virgin birth, atoning death, resurrection, ascension and return
All men have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. We are saved by God's grace through faith in Christ alone
We are regenerated and empowered by The Holy Spirit to love God and love one another
God created all things for His pleasure and for His purpose
God made humanity male and female, and marriage between a man and a woman is the basis for the family
We have a responsibility to be stewards of God's creation and to participate in discipling nations. Education should prepare us for this
The Montessori philosophy is by far the most compatible educational philosophy with our statement of purpose, and high-fidelity Montessori classrooms offer the best platform for implementation
Our educational philosophy includes the following tenets of Montessori practice:
"Children are human beings to whom respect is due, superior to us by reason of their innocence and of the greater possibilities of their future." — Maria Montessori
Education of the child must factor in human tendencies, the characteristics of planes of development and sensitive periods.
The child is able to self-construct knowledge from interactions with materialized abstractions and built-in controls of error.
Within boundaries of well-being and respect, the child has freedom to make their own choices in the environment.
Children's developmental needs are best met in a classroom community with multiple ages in the same plane of development.
The work of education is divided between teacher and environment; a well-prepared environment renders the child independent.
The teacher is a skilled observer who designs and maintains learning environments to meet children's needs.
A positive and intentional relationship between home and school is integral to the child's development.
Based on John 15 and the writings of Maria Montessori
Our faith in Jesus Christ is the foundation of all we do
Energized by the joy of teaching and learning the Montessori way
We are salt and light in the communities we serve
Act with honesty, authenticity and transparency
Hindsight, insight, oversight, foresight
We think, adapt, and innovate
We dare greatly
We build joyful, peaceful communities
We lead ourselves
We stand firm, thriving in all conditions
